In your 10 Things You Should Know article, item ten: "10. The laser cutter will ignore 'dashed line' effects - so you need to ensure they're formatted right."
I have an idea for this. In Illustrator, draw the path you wish to place dashes upon. Use the type-on-path tool to type dashes of the desired size and spacing. With this object selected, go to TYPE / CREATE OUTLINES (shift/command/O). Now you have paths for your dashes. Each dash is a little rectangular four-sided path, but depending on the size of your dashes, the laser will either burn away the inside of the dash or it will drop out, either way leaving the dash holes.
